This is my idea for Bar Clamp Pads:

I have had pipe clamps and bar clamps for years without clamp pads. When I used them I would place a small piece of wood between the clamp faces and my project.  Sometimes it was difficult to hold the clamp and the wood on both sides. Also storing the clamps was a hassle as I would generally clamp them on the side of my work benches.

I have come up with pads that I think are unique. I first made pads for my pipe clamps.  They worked so well that I have made similar pads for my aluminum bar clamps.  I have also come up with a rack that holds both style clamps with pads.

The basic pad is the same for pipe and bar clamps.

I cut a ½” x 2 ½” x 5 ½” piece of southern pine.

For the Bar clamp I cut a 1 3/8” x 7/8” opening in the center of the pad.

For the ½” Pipe clamp I cut a 7/8” dia hole in the center of the pad.

For the ¾” Pipe clamp I cut a 1 1/8” dia hole in the center of the pad.

For the pad that goes on the stationary side drill a 1/2” dia on center 1 ¼” from end.

For the clips on the back I took a piece of ¾” oak and cut 3/8” rabbit 3/16” deep on one edge and then ripped 3/8” strip.  I then cut the strips 1 3/8” long and glued on the sides of the pads.

For the clamp rack I cut (2) pieces of oak 1 1/2” x 2 ½” x 75”.

On one side of one piece I drilled a 3/8” hole ½” deep every 3”.

I then cut (24) pieces of 3/8” dowel stock 1” long and glued in the rack holes.

I mounted the clamp rack with dowels 8“ below ceiling and the dowels away from wall.

I installed the 2nd clamp without dowels 32” below the ceiling parallel and aligned with first rack.
